Do not be a frog trapped in a well, we all have heard this a gazillion times while growing up. Is it so wrong to be in your comfort one and try to grow? Does being with your loved ones hold you back from greatness? If not anything, pandemic has taught us the volatility of human life and the importance of family. People are willing to stay back in their hometown and bask in the love and warmth of their families, rather than going out and chasing jobs in big, cold, distant cities.
While I was younger and much more uninformed about the brevity of human life, I used to be quite maniac about having a bigshot and fancy career in some place so far away from my people. Age has taught me the value of prioritizing, to peek inside my soul and list down what I want, what I truly want. For starters, I want to be with my family. I want to chat with my mother while she is cooking in the kitchen, dance in the living room with my sisters, fight with my brother over silly things, bore my father with how my day went when he came back home from office.
Desiring a full-fledged career should not take me away from domestic bliss and land me up in a new city to struggle for the warmth of home every day. Work from home/anywhere solves a lot of problems, and pandemic has brought the world together digitally. Let me give you an example, the speed at which digital payments has gained momentum was unimaginable, say, 5 years back. Similarly, WFH was not an option before the pandemic but now it is. As horrific as the pandemic was, it also brought about so many positive developments. The pandemic was a testament that jobs which do not require physical interaction can be performed smoothly over digital platforms.
I can be in a well, and still see the world around me. I do not need to physically interact with people to learn and grow. Interacting digitally can serve the purpose as well. Obviously, there are jobs and prospects which need people to migrate but also in today's world, there are many jobs which can be done from homes. This might sound like a rant from a person staying in a city, thousands of kilometers away from home but think about it.
100% agree!
